RIFLE, Colo.—Sen. Michael Bennet says compressed natural gas can compete with oil from the Middle East and help the U.S. move away from foreign oil.
The Colorado senator made the comments Monday during his first day of a three-day tour of the state’s Western Slope to talk about energy development. The Glenwood Springs Post Independent reports that Bennet made two stops in Garfield County to talk with elected officials, business owners and natural gas industry representatives.
The newspaper reports that Bennet says compressed natural gas can create jobs domestically but that the U.S. does not yet have the infrastructure to make it happen.
Bennet also visited a compressed natural gas filling station in Rifle.
The senator will continue his tour Tuesday in Grand Junction and Montrose. He will be in Gunnison Wednesday.
