A Fort Carson soldier died last week in an Afghanistan bombing, the Pentagon confirmed Tuesday.

Master Sgt. Charles L. Price III died Friday in Kandahar. He is the second soldier from the post’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division killed in Afghanistan since the unit deployed in June.

The 40-year-old native of Milam, Texas, joined the Army after high school in 1989. He came to Fort Carson last fall, joining the brigade in November.

A veteran of the 1991 Persian Gulf War, Price also served in Kosovo and in Iraq in 2008. This was his first deployment to Afghanistan.

During his 22 years in uniform, Price earned an impressive set of honors, including the Bronze Star and Meritorious Service Medal. He earned the Army Commendation Medal five times.

He is the 324th Fort Carson soldier killed overseas since troops began deploying from the post in 2003. Of those, 67 died in Afghanistan. The Gazette
