Since its unveiling Friday at the Iowa State Fair, the Cy- Hawk trophy, awarded to the winner of the annual football game between Iowa and Iowa State, has been widely panned and compared to a garage sale leftover or a fireplace mantle centerpiece. “I think they can do better,” Gov. Terry Branstad said with a chuckle Monday. Critics seem to find the trophy of a farm family around a bushel of corn and a corn stalk a little bit, well, corny. “The farmer, family and corn is all wonderful, but I don’t really get the relationship to a football game,” former Iowa coach Hayden Fry said.
