An AWOL soldier from Colorado suspected of absconding with his 1-month-old daughter dropped her off at a fire station in Oklahoma, police said Wednesday.
Derik Hembree, 24, had been stationed with the U.S. Army in Colorado Springs. Fort Carson officials said Hembree, a private, had been absent without leave since May.
Colorado Springs police had been seeking him on a felony warrant for violation of a custody order since Aug. 4.
Hembree handed the child over to a lieutenant at a fire station in Lawton, Okla. The child, Brooke Hembree, was unharmed. Hembree was arrested in Lawton without incident Wednesday night.
