Peter Eaton, dean of Denver’s St. John’s Cathedral, is one of five nominees for bishop coadjutor of the Episcopal Diocese of New York.
A special diocesan convention will be held Oct. 29 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York to pick a bishop coadjutor to work with current Bishop Mark S. Sisk until his retirement on or before his 72nd birthday in August 2014. Upon Sisk’s retirement, the bishop coadjutor will become the new diocesan bishop.
A committee selected Eaton and four fellow nominees from almost 60 candidates recommended for the position. The other four are: Cathy Hagstrom George, priest-in-charge at St. Mary’s in Dorchester, Mass.; John T.W. Harmon, rector at Trinity Epsicopal Church in Washington, D.C.; Tracey Lind, dean of Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio; and, Pierre Whalon, bishop-in-charge of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe in Paris, France.
