SALINA, Utah—Police making a traffic stop in central Utah have recovered about $400,000 in necklaces, watches and more than 100 diamond rings that may be connected to a recent robbery at a Denver jewelry store.
Authorities who stopped a car Thursday morning on Interstate 70 in Salina (suh-LIE’-nuh) searched the trunk and found a shirt wrapped around a bag full of rings.
Salina Police Chief Greg Harwood says Colorado officials were planning Friday to interview the 21-year-old man and 22-year-old woman from Aurora, Colo., who were arrested.
Two armed suspects wearing clown costumes and white face paint robbed Sonny’s Rocks jewelry store at gunpoint Aug. 24.
An employee at the Denver store said Friday they took a combination of real jewelry and prototype pieces made of less-valuable materials.
