After its stop last weekend at its home base in Fort Collins, the Tour de Fat is making its way to Denver on Saturday for its traveling festivities. In its 12th season, the event, which is sponsored by New Belgium Brewing, is a celebration of all things bicycle. It will be at the west of City Park and starts with a bike parade at 10 a.m. (register by 9 a.m.).

A highlight of Tour de Fat is the annual car-for-bike swap. A swapper to represent Denver is still being sought. At each Tour de Fat stop, one person hands over his or her car keys and commits to one year of living car- free. Each car-for-bike swapper will receive a hand-built Black Sheep commuter bike in return for his or her car.

Volunteers are chosen after submitting an application describing their desire to be car- free. To apply, go to the Tour de Fat Facebook page and and upload your application in one of three formats: video (two minutes or less), photo or the written word.

After Saturday’s parade, there will be live music in the park until 4 p.m.

COMPETE

Going to XStream with friends in Glenwood

If you and your friends are feeling daring, the Glenwood Springs Adventure Race is Saturday. There are two divisions — sport (50 miles) and sprint (25 miles). It is the last in the summer Adventure XStream Series, which started in March in Moab. But just because you missed the first three doesn’t mean you can’t compete in the finale.

The disciplines for Saturday’s race include: sprint course — kayak, mountain bike, caving and running; sport course — kayak, mountain bike, trek, caving, riverboarding (optional opt out for a 1-hour penalty), rappel and navigation.

There are solo, two-person and four-person team divisions, and registration is $135 for sprint and $185 for sport. But you had better figure it out quick. Registration closes Wednesday.

Check out boarding film made in Aspen at Ellie

The latest backcountry snowboard movie, “The Art of Flight,” premieres Wednesday at New York’s Beacon Theatre before heading on the road for screenings across the country, including Denver on Sept. 27 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Other stops include Seattle, Minneapolis, Montreal and Boston before the tour concludes Nov. 3 at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts.

During May, the film crew took over Aspen mountain after it closed. All told, the crew shot more than 2,600 hours of footage for the movie and eight one-hour episodes of a planned television show on how Brain Farm Digital Cinema founder Curt Morgan and his friend snowboarder Travis Rice make their movies.
