The Furry Friends Food Drive, which has collected 100,000 pounds of pet food for families in need the past two years, wraps up this year’s drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at South High School.

Pet lovers of all types are encouraged to bring unopened cans and bags of food for dogs, cats, rabbits or birds. In addition, monetary donations are accepted and used to purchase food at bulk-rate prices.

All of the food donations are being contributed to the Food Bank of the Rockies, which distributes it to families throughout the state of Colorado.

The drive was started by a group of metro-area women alarmed by the increasing number of pets that have been turned over to shelters by financially stressed owners who can no longer afford to care for them.

South High School is at 1700 E. Louisiana Ave. For more information, go to .
