The sixth annual Reel Rock film tour kicks off Thursday at the Boulder Theater with six climbing flicks sure to drop jaws and speed hearts.
From 9-year-old bouldering sensation Ashima Shiraishi to gravity-defying Dean Potter’s speed-climbing record up the Nose of Yosemite’s El Capitan to Sketch Andy’s hair-raising exploits on a slackline, this year’s Reel Rock tour caroms with today’s most awe-inspiring ascendants.
The films — an alpinist collection that is Colorado’s own mini Banff Film Festival — by Boulder’s Sender Films and Big UP Productions showcase climbing’s most famously gifted athletes, such as part-time Colorado resident Will Gadd, who clings to upside down ice in British Columbia and former Estes Parker Tommy Caldwell pinching his way up 5.14 first ascents on a big wall in Yosemite.
