City Park regularly plays host to warm weather events, from evening live music to morning walk-a-thons. Perhaps the liveliest of them all was the 2011 New Belgium Tour de Fat stop on Saturday morning, which transformed the west end of the park into a most surreal day. Visiting 13 U.S. cities, “spreading the good word about the positive societal offerings of the bicycle,” Tour de Fat kicked off its day in Denver with a sea of kookily costumed bicyclists parading about town. Live music, New Belgium beer, food, festival games and shows provided a day of fun in the sun. In the center of it all, costumed participants waited in line at the “RIDE-ABLE ARTicles” tent, for their chance to hop on the rolling art, as a crowd of onlookers saluted and cheered their comical attempts.
