A wine’s vintage, if it has one, refers to the year the grapes were harvested and turned into wine. For American wines, a label can carry a vintage marker if 95 percent of the grapes were harvested in that year. Not all wines have a vintage, because they are made from grapes from different harvests — juice from new grapes is added to juice that’s already in the barrel.
