AURORA, Colo.—Aurora police are trying to determine why seven city council members have become victims of identity theft.

Five members of the 10-member board have been bilked out of $2,000 for online purchases over the past few weeks.

According to the Denver Post ( ), Aurora’s human resources department sent a letter to retired city workers last month saying a temporary worker took computer information on city workers, but city officials are not sure what role that played in the thefts.

The remaining three council members and the mayor plan to alert their banks to prevent their identities from being stolen.
