Police: Homeless man attacked in Colorado Springs with 30-pound chunk of concrete

A homeless man attacked another homeless man in Colorado Springs, striking the victim with a 30-pound block of concrete, police said.

The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of East Las Vegas Street, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.

Officers were called to the scene and the 52-year-old victim described the alleged attack.

Based on the interview, officers later arrested a suspect in a homeless camp near East Fountain Boulevard and Wahsatch Avenue, police said.

The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Gage Vail.

Police said a 12-inch by 15-inch piece of concrete was used in the attack.

The victim told investigators he was struck several times. Details on his injuries were not released.

Vail is being held on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder.
