TORONTO — Danny Koevermans scored twice in the second half Saturday, giving Toronto FC a 2-1 win over the Rapids in Major League Soccer.
Toronto’s Eric Avila found Ashtone Morgan alone on the left side, and the 20-year-old Canadian fullback sent a cross through the penalty box that Koevermans tapped in. The Dutch striker made it 2-0 eight minutes later with a glancing header off a cross from the right side by Nick Soolsma.
Koevermans has six goals in seven games this year. He left the game in the 73rd minute.
“I think we left ourselves too big of a hole to dig out of,” Rapids striker Drew Moor said.
Gambian striker Sanna Nyassi scored for the Rapids in the 69th. He buried a ball high in the net from close range.
“Any game you lose, there is always disappointment. But after a really tight first period, I thought that we would improve,” said Rapids coach Gary Smith. “We certainly could be better going forward, and that did happen. But not until Toronto had scored two goals.”
Colorado hosts Real España on Wednesday in a CONCACAF Champions League game.
