A 24-year-old Denver man has died from injuries sustained earlier this month when he fell while trying to scale the outside of his apartment building.

According to a police report, Jeremy Shipley lost the keys to his apartment in the 1600 block of Fillmore Street, so he decided to climb up the side of the building to his balcony.

Shipley fell about 40 feet and landed on a first-floor balcony of another residence.

He had been drinking and was intoxicated, police said.

Witnesses heard the crash, found Shipley and called 911.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Sept. 10, and Shipley was taken to Denver Health Medical Center.

He was pronounced dead Sunday morning, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
