Boulder leaders took steps Tuesday night that they hope will help fulfill a vision for a vibrant and scenic downtown — approving one measure to attract office space and another to improve the future streetscape along Canyon Boulevard.
The Boulder City Council unanimously approved the final reading of a city code creating incentives to add office space downtown.
In a 5-4 vote, the council also approved a code amendment creating a 65-foot setback on Canyon Boulevard, from Ninth Street to 16th Street.
The setback is smaller than the 75-foot setback that was in the city code until it was removed in 2000.
Samuel Assefa, senior urban designer for the city, said the setback will allow the city to plant more trees and add pedestrian and bike pathways to make the corridor feel more like a true boulevard.
