When officers on bicycles were called about a man prowling around a bicycle parking area in downtown Denver today, 26-year-old Michael Hooper tried to flee — on a bicycle stolen from the lot, police said this afternoon.
“It was later determined that the man had been captured previously on video camera stealing bicycles in the area,” police said in a press release, noting that Hooper could be responsible for numerous bike thefts downtown.
A security guard at 555 17th St. called police about a suspicious man among the parked bicycles just before 11 a.m. Hooper peddled away for about a block before police caught up and arrested him.
He is being held for investigation of felony theft and possession of burglary tools.
