The annual Emily’s Parade motorcycle ride and 5K run/walk is set for Sunday in memory of Emily Keyes.
Keyes was a Platte Canyon High School student on Sept. 27, 2006, when she and several other girls were held hostage by a lone intruder to the school. He killed himself after shooting and killing Keyes.
After that tragedy, Emily’s parents, John-Michael and Ellen Stoddard-Keyes, established the I Love U Guys Foundation. “I love u guys,” was the last text message Emily sent her family.
The nonprofit commemorates her kindness and promotes the protection of youthful joy through education and positive action.
The ride begins at 11 a.m. at Columbine High School, 6201 S. Pierce St., as does the run/walk at Fitzsimmons Middle School, 57393 U.S. 285, in Bailey.
