Ultimate fight set 2011 audience record for U.S.

Jon Jones’ submission victory over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the headline bout Saturday at UFC 135 in Denver helped draw the largest U.S. attendance of an Ultimate Fighting Championship event this year, UFC president Dana White said.

Attendance at the Pepsi Center was 16,344, organizers said, making UFC 135 the third most-attended UFC fight in the world this year, behind UFC 129 on April 30 in Toronto (55,724 for Georges St.-Pierre vs. Jake Shields) and UFC 127 on Feb. 27 in Sydney (18,186 for B.J. Penn vs. Jon Fitch).

The gate receipts for the Denver fight topped $2 million, White said, well ahead of the UFC’s previous pay-per-view event in the U.S., UFC 133 in Philadelphia, which made $1.5 million.
