Authorities today identified the 58-year-old man who died at Rocky Mountain National Park on Saturday as Richard Wittwer of Golden.
An autopsy by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office revealed that he died a natural death as a result of a heart attack. Wittwer is the third person to die at the park this year.
Park dispatch received notice at 1:38 p.m. that a 58-year-old man near the Lawn Lake Trailhead felt ill. When rangers arrived on scene at 2:25 p.m., people were administering cardio pulmonary resuscitation, according to a news release from park spokeswoman Kyle Patterson.
Wittwer remained unresponsive after rangers gave additional care. He was pronounced dead on scene at 2:44 p.m.
