A 22-year-old man faces up to 80 years in prison after a Denver jury found him guilty of shooting and wounding a cab driver in Denver last summer.
On Monday, Emmanuel Theus-Roberts was convicted of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, aggravated robbery and second-degree assault, according to a news release from the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
On June 7, 2010, Theus-Roberts rode in the cab for more than an hour, before he was dropped off at 33rd Avenue and Williams Street. Theus-Roberts claimed he was $10 short of the cab fare and told the 44-year-old driver he was going to get more cash and return.
Instead, he came back to the cab and demanded money from the driver. Theus-Roberts then shot the driver in the chest after he was handed the money.
Denver police officers used a police dog to track Theus-Roberts to the 3100 block of Race Street, where he was found hiding in a garage.
Theus-Roberts was arrested and the cab driver survived.
Theus-Roberts will be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 17, in Denver District Courtroom 5D.
