BOULDER — In 100 years, when University of Colorado dignitaries dig up a time capsule planted by today’s leaders, they’ll find an antiquated piece of technology called the iPad.
University officials on Tuesday gathered for a ceremonial placement of a time capsule at Macky Auditorium. The gathering marked the end of a year-long centennial celebration for the building.
A year ago, to begin the celebration of Macky’s history, CU leaders unearthed a time capsule that was buried in the auditorium in 1910. Items inside included photographs and newspaper articles.
Inside the capsule buried Tuesday were transcripts of speeches from campus leaders, copies of the day’s newspapers, CDs of campus performances and copies of campus magazines. School officials also included an iPad loaded with contemporary digital content and a Pac-12 program.
“Macky has created 100 years of memories,” said Rudy Betancourt, director of the Macky Auditorium Concert Hall, during the ceremony. “This building is truly a gem.”
He said it was a thrill to discover what was left by campus colleagues in 1910, and he felt challenged to provide compelling artifacts to be unveiled in 2110. Brittany Anas, The Daily Camera
