Denver Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigations are looking for a man who robbed a bank at gunpoint yesterday — firing off a shot when he dropped his gun.
The robbery occurred at a Compass Bank near West 32nd Avenue and Lowell Boulevard just after noon.
The suspect entered the bank and showed a handgun.
According to a press release from the FBI, witnesses reported that the man then dropped the gun.
“A round was discharged from the firearm while the suspect was in the bank,” the release states.
The suspect is described as a white man, about 36 years of age, and about 5 feet, 7 inches tall. He was described as having a slender build, weighing between 150 and 160 pounds.
Bank robbery is punishable by a 20-year prison sentence for each offense and increases if a dangerous weapon is used in the commission of the crime.
