Authorities have recovered an assault rifle stolen from an unmarked Boulder County Sheriff’s vehicle more than three weeks ago.
On Sept. 22, a detective walked out of his Westminster apartment to discover that his vehicle was stolen overnight, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
The Westminster Police Department was called to the apartment complex in the 3800 block of West 68th Street, where the 2005 Ford Taurus was stolen.
The car was later discovered abandoned about a mile away from the apartment complex, in the 7100 block of Stuart Street.
The AR-15 rifle, ammunition and a bullet-proof vest were missing.
Westminster police found the rifle and the vest Friday.
Police are still investigating the theft.
Anyone with information is asked to call Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
