Randy Dreitz
School: Brush Beetdiggers, Class 2A Patriot League, ranked No. 1 in The Denver Post 2A media poll.
Record: 7-0 overall and 4-0 in league in 2011; 90-39 career.
Coaching resume: Assistant at Fort Morgan in 1987 and Brush from 1988-99; head coach at Brush since 2000.
Life lines: Age 48. Born in Denver. Graduated from Northglenn High School in 1981 and the University of Southern Colorado (now CSU-Pueblo) in 1986, earned degree in physical education with a minor in mathematics. Teaches math and weight training at Brush. Also coaches track at Brush and is an assistant wrestling coach in middle school.
Back in his day: Center at Northglenn from 1977-80, all-Front Range League as a senior, and from 1981-84 at Southern Colorado, all-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as a senior; also competed in shot put and discus, all-RMAC in discus in 1986.
Last week: “Eaton is very good,” Dreitz said. “(The Reds) have got everything . . . size, speed, talent. I don’t even know how we stayed on the field with them.”
It may sound odd coming from the coach of the top-ranked team in the class, but Dreitz wasn’t kidding. No. 6 Eaton had only one previous loss, 7-6 in the opener to 3A Windsor.
Last Friday night at home, the Beetdiggers needed touchdowns in the fourth quarter by Connor Weisser and Kyle Rosenbrock to tie the game at 35. Weisser also scored in overtime, and Brush stopped a two-point conversion attempt by the Reds to win 42-41.
“We’re fortunate,” Dreitz said. “The kids are playing hard, and I’ve got a great bunch.”
