When voters were asked in a recent county-commissioned survey to identify “the single most important issue facing Boulder County today,” the most frequently stated answer showed concerns about jobs and the economy.

Nineteen percent of those polled listed that as the top issue facing the county. Coming in second, at 12 percent, was a collection of concerns about public schools and education.

Among the other issues that people identified were: open space, 6 percent; transportation and congestion, 6 percent; the environment and growth, 5 percent.

“We use the surveys to find out where the public is on a lot of issues,” said Ben Pearlman, chairman of the Board of County Commissioners. “It’s important to take the pulse of the public.”
