One lane will be added in each direction of the north-south freeway a between North Academy Boulevard and Interquest Parkway.
On Monday, the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments agreed to a funding plan that calls for local governments to contribute $5 million of the cost, despite reluctance from some members of the council board.
