Englewood-based Western Union said today that Western Union Money Transfer service will be expanded to new countries across Europe – excluding France – and Africa, Asia Pacific and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The expansion is the result of an agreement with Societe Generale, one of the largest financial services groups in Europe, which already offers Western Union services in more than 2,500 locations across 25 countries.

Western Union said the agreement is an extension of the two companies’ successful collaboration across Europe and Africa.

“We’re looking forward to combining our strengths in Asia Pacific and the Commonwealth of Independent States,” said Hikmet Ersek, chief executive and president of Western Union. “Societe Generale and Western Union are both global brands with worldwide presence.”

Western Union said the relationship between it and Societe Generale has grown rapidly since the first Western Union Money Transfer agreement signed in 1998.Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com.
