“Captain America: The First Avenger
*** (out of 4)
Captain America was born out of a “super soldier” experiment during WWII. They have to back-engineer a way into the meeting between the Captain (Chris Evans) and the Avenger leader we know as Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). And they have to give us a credible version of future Iron Man Tony Stark’s inventor dad, Howard Stark. PG-13. 1 hour, 58 minutes. Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel
“Attack the Block”
*** (out of 4)
Brit Joe Cornish debuts with a genre ride that has social ambitions and pertinent timing given last summer’s London rioting. In a South London housing project — or “estate” —a group of teen thugs and one feisty nurse (Jodie Whittaker) square off against extraterrestrials. The young actors, newcomers mostly, appeal even though we meet them during a mugging. The action is R-rated, the aliens a bit silly. Even so, you’re onto something if you’re thinking it sounds a bit like “Goonies n the Hood” and a couple of other Spielberg ian-tinted gems. R. 1 hour, 28 minutes. Lisa Kennedy, The Denver Post
“Winnie the Pooh”
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Sweet tale of a stubby little cubby and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. G. 1 hour, 13 minutes. Lisa Kennedy
