ALBUQUERQUE — Soon after Air Force senior safety Jon Davis said weight was taken off the shoulders of him and his teammates Saturday by a 42-0 rout of New Mexico, a weighty subject came up.
The Falcons’ next game is against Army, and that had Davis looking ahead not more than an hour after the Falcons snapped a three-game losing streak.
“We pretty much have to immediately put this game behind us and move on,” Davis said. “Army has gotten a lot better since my freshman year.”
There were some things about Air Force’s easy win Saturday that won’t be forgotten quickly.
The Falcons had not shut out an opponent since 2009 and on the road since 1997.
“We haven’t had a shutout in a while,” said linebacker Brady Amack, who led Air Force in tackles with nine. “Our goal in the second half was to get a shutout. We got back on the right track, and we have to continue with that attitude if we want to continue our plans to win out.”
Cost of victory.
Coach Troy Calhoun had a mixed injury report. He said cornerback Chris Miller, defensive lineman Ben Kopacka and wide receiver Drew Coleman came off the injury report and played against the Lobos.
But Calhoun was unsure about the status of quarterback Tim Jefferson (nose) and defensive lineman Harry Kehs (shoulder) for the Army game.
Defensive end Zack Payne (knee) has a chance to return this week.
