COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—El Paso County is accepting public comments through Nov. 14 on its draft regulations for the oil and gas industry.
The Gazette reports ( ) the proposal includes 24 pages of changes to the county’s land use code and 12 pages of procedures.
Craig Dossey of the county’s development services department says the intent is to address local impacts to roads and the environment.
County commissioners suspended new applications for drilling activity through late January so they could adopt local regulations, on top of state regulations. However one company, Ultra Resources, has been allowed to apply for permits to drill three exploratory wells.
Dossey says the county proposal includes groundwater monitoring beyond what the state normally requires, but it doesn’t get into areas like regulating hydraulic fracturing materials.
