CHICAGO — Jed Hoyer made it clear he’s no yes man for Theo Epstein, despite their successful working relationship from years past with the Boston Red Sox.
Hoyer took over as the Chicago Cubs’ general manager Tuesday, reuniting with Epstein to try to end a championship drought that has reached 103 years.
“We do a good job of arguing and presenting our points. . . . We’re going to disagree for sure, and we’re going to have great debates,” Hoyer said.
Epstein said that it’s likely third baseman Aramis Ramirez will end up with another team. The Cubs exercised their portion of a $16 million mutual option, but Ramirez declined it and became a free agent.
• Yankees general manager Brian Cashman signed a three-year contract worth about $9 million.
• The Seattle Mariners hired Chris Gwynn, the younger brother of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, as their director of player development.
