The Lego Universe is coming to an end. And the death of that virtual world will have a real impact in Colorado.
The Lego Group confirmed Friday in a news release that the multiplayer online game will close Jan. 31 after just 15 months in operation. More than 100 people work at Play Well Studios in Louisville, handling the game’s online functions and programing. The Lego Group said in the release that it will offer assistance in finding new jobs.
“The Lego Universe team can take pride in having developed and launched a great Lego experience that many players will miss. Right now, we have almost 2 million players in Lego Universe, and we get extremely positive feedback,” Jesper Vilstrup, vice president of Lego Universe, said in the release. “Unfortunately, we have not been able to build a satisfactory revenue model in our target group and therefore have decided to close the game.”
The Lego Group took over the universe in February. It was originally developed by NetDevil. The Denver Post
