Denver and northeastern Colorado could be in a nice, sunny weather doughnut hole over the next few days, with worse weather in all directions, courtesy of an arctic storm.

Forecasters expect wind in the foothills all along Colorado’s Front Range and snow in the high country, including a blizzard in the northern mountains.

Winds are expected to kick up in the foothills — between 6,000 and 9,000 feet — this afternoon and strengthen through Saturday morning, packing 70-mph gusts, the National Weather Service said.

High-country travelers are urged to use caution because of blinding winds and icy roads.

Northwestern Colorado is in line for wind gusts up to 30 mph and 8 to 16 inches of snow, forecasters said.
