Mother of Denver woman hit by light rail train: “I’ll see that smile again”

Laura Triem was on her way to work at the Cheesecake Factory in downtown Denver when she stepped in front of a light-rail train.

“It’s that one moment where you hope someone’s going to reach out and grab you and pull you back. But you don’t, and the accident happens,” Mary Chadwick said.

Chadwick took a break from watching over her 21-year-old daughter in her hospital room at Denver Health Medical Center to talk to 9NEWS.

“She had her earphones in, listening to her music and as one train passed, she stepped forward thinking it was OK to go,” Chadwick said. “If there is a lesson to be learned, you know, you raise your children to look both ways before you walk into the street. She didn’t look both ways this time.”
