The Metro Denver Sports Commission is expected to rule Wednesday on the status of a board member named in an illegal-betting-ring indictment. The commission’s executive board met Monday and determined that it wants to hear directly from Steve Sander before deciding on whether he will keep his position on the board, chairman Jerome Davis said.

Sander, a prominent figure in sports marketing in Denver, was one of 25 people named in a grand-jury indictment of the metro-Denver sports-gambling ring. He allegedly placed bets with the ring, but he has not been charged with any crimes. He also is director of strategic marketing for the city of Denver. Two of the alleged operators of the gambling enterprise, Daniel Dinner and Michael Elick, pleaded not guilty last week to a long list of charges, including violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act.
