COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The director of a Colorado Springs nonprofit center for women says people across the country are making donations to make up for lost federal funding.
The executive director of Gospel Shelters for Women, Marilyn Vyzourek (Vi-ZOR’-ik), says the federal government canceled a $25,000 grant over the organization’s refusal to stop mandating Bible studies as part of its treatment for substance abuse. She told the Colorado Springs Gazette () that her organization is also losing another $25,000 in funding from another federal program that ran out of money.
Glenn Beck talked to her about her plight on his radio show Monday and said he would donate $55,000. Since then, Vyzourek says she’s received about $8,000 in donations, most of them around $25 a piece.
