WASHINGTON — A Democratic-led Senate panel is pushing ahead with a sweeping defense bill over White House objections to provisions on how it should handle terrorism suspects.

The Armed Services Committee approved the revised measure Tuesday. It would require military custody of a suspect determined to be a member of al-Qaeda or its affiliates and involved in the planning or an attack on the U.S. The administration said it would limit law enforcement.
