COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs officials have spent $111,000 on a new campaign to brand their city.

The Gazette reports ( ) city officials Tuesday unveiled the campaign’s slogan, “Live it up!” in a color scheme of purple and green and city logo with a stylized image of Pikes Peak over a swoosh. Springs is prominently displayed with Colorado in smaller letters.

Doug Price, head of the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau, says the purple is homage to the “purple mountains majesty” line in “America the Beautiful” that Pikes Peak inspired Katharine Lee Bates to write. Bates penned a poem that would become the lyrics to the song during a visit in 1893.

Development of the branding campaign began in May and involved hundreds of people and organizations.
