A man in Jefferson County escaped serious injury after he was blown clear from the back of an exploding welding truck this morning in Golden.
The man nor the company he worked for were named, but Fairmount Fire Protection District spokesman Cris Brewer said the man was treated and released at Lutheran Medical Center in Denver.
The explosion happened sometime after the man had been using a torch to cut bolts from a train car, Brewer said. None of the fuel cylinders inside the truck ruptured, “but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have leaked and caused the explosion,” he said.
“The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.”
Brewer said he could not release the name of the business where the explosion happened, but the address coincides with Greenbriar Rail Services.
The blast at about 10 a.m. heavily damaged the truck. A piece of it was found more than 100 feet away, according to the fire department.
