BALI, Indonesia — A senior Obama administration official said Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will travel to Myanmar next month, the first such visit in more than 50 years.
The Asian nation, also known as Burma, suffered under brutally repressive military rule for decades, but new civilian leaders have shown signs of seeking reform.
Obama was to announce the decision today from Indonesia. Before making his decision, Obama spoke to Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who spent 15 years under house arrest.
