Arvada police today released a composite sketch of a man suspected in two attempted child abductions and an indecent exposure incident in Arvada.
Arvada Police are investigating four different incidents in west Arvada during the past 10 days.
The man suspected in the incidents is in his 50s to 60s with salt-and-pepper hair, a wrinkled face and a potbelly. He is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 230 pounds. He may be driving a grayish-colored sedan and possibly riding a blue mountain bike.
The first incident happened on Nov. 4, when three 12-year-old girls were playing outside near 69th Place and Robb Street. A man driving a grayish sedan approached the girls before exposing and touching himself in front of them.
The suspect was described as a man in his 50s with salt-and-pepper hair, a receding hairline and a large belly.
At 3 p.m. on Nov. 12, police were called to 7000 Ward Road, near the Danny Kendrick Park and the Apex Recreation Center, on a report of a possible child abduction. A 12-year-old girl told officers she was playing with a friend and her dog when a man jumped out of the bushes and grabbed her.
The girl kicked the man and was able to break free and run home. She described the man as being in his 40s or 50s with salt-and-pepper hair. He was wearing a long-sleeved white T-shirt and blue athletic shorts.
On the evening of Nov. 14, police were called to the area of 77th Avenue and Parfet Street. A man driving a silver or white four-door car drove up to a 15-year-old girl and asked her for directions. The man became more persistent and asked the girl to help him find a location.
The girl became concerned and ran home. She could not see the man in the dark.
At 8 p.m. on Nov. 16, a 6-year-old girl was approached by a man while she was sitting in the lounge area of the YMCA at 6350 Eldridge St. The girl left the building with the man after he asked her to help him find his bike.
As the two walked out of the building, the man placed his hand over the girl’s mouth. The girl pushed his hand away and ran back inside to find her parents.
The suspect may have been wearing a camouflage jacket and pants, with stubble on his face. He may be riding a bike.
Police have increased patrols in the areas and are working to obtain surveillance video in some of the incidents. Parents are urged to remind their children that an adult will never ask for directions and to kick and scream if a stranger grabs them.
