A 22-year-old man convicted of shooting and wounding a cab driver in June 2010 was sentenced on Thursday to 80 years in prison.
In October, Emmanuel Theus-Roberts was convicted of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, aggravated robbery and second-degree assault, according to a news release from the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
On June 7, 2010, Theus-Roberts robbed and shot a 44-year-old cab driver in the chest. Theus-Roberts rode in the man’s cab for more than an hour before he was dropped off at 33rd Avenue and Williams Street. He then claimed to be $10 short of the fare and told the driver he was going to get more cash.
Instead of cash, Theus-Roberts returned to the cab with a gun and demanded all of his money back from the driver. Theus-Roberts shot the driver after he gave him the money.
Police were called to the 3100 block of Race Street, where a police dog found Theus-Roberts hiding in a garage.
The driver survived.
Theus-Roberts was ordered to pay $6,000 in restitution as well.
