DENVER—The foster mother of a man suspected of sexually assaulting a girl in Denver this summer has been charged with helping the man stay on the run.

Denver prosecutors have charged 72-year-old Sylvia R. Luckett with being an accessory to a crime.

She is accused of lying to police about the whereabouts of 27-year-old Bret Lee Thompson and of providing transportation and money to help him flee.

Thompson was arrested in New Jersey and is charged with second-degree kidnapping and sexual assault on a child.

Luckett told Denver television station KUSA ( ) she didn’t help her foster son and that she never deceived the FBI and the police.

She was being held Tuesday with bond set at $20,000.
