Denver City Council will vote Monday on paying out a total of $30,000 to settle a case in federal court alleging racial profiling by Denver police.
The settlement would pay $10,000 to the American Civil Liberties Union and $20,000 to plaintiffs Jose Sanchez and Joshinna Carreras.
The suit alleges that on July 29, 2010, police falsely accused Sanchez of being an illegal immigrant and arrested him on a bogus charge of providing false identification. He spent five days in jail and lost his job.
The suit also alleges officers unlawfully searched Carreras’ residence and belongings without first obtaining a search warrant.
