DENVER—Denver police say an officer shot and wounded a man who allegedly tried to attack the officer with a hammer and shattered the driver’s window of the patrol car in which the officer was sitting.
Police spokeswoman Vicki Ferrari says the suspect was in critical condition at Denver Health Medical Center after he was shot Sunday. She says the officer didn’t appear to be injured.
No names have been released. Ferrari says it wasn’t yet clear how many shots the officer fired.
Ferrari says the officer was in uniform and had parked the marked patrol car behind a store to complete paperwork when the attack occurred. She says investigators haven’t established a motive.
Police detectives and district attorney’s investigators were interviewing the officer and witnesses.
