BOULDER, Colo.—A Lafayette psychic accused of stealing thousands of dollars from clients was described as a predator of vulnerable people as her theft trial opened.

Fifty-five-year-old psychic Nancy Marks went on trial Monday. She’s accused of scamming clients out of nearly $300,000 by telling them she needed their cash to “draw out the bad energy” and their credit card numbers to see how frequently the number 6 appeared.

Deputy District Attorney Michael Foote said that Marks would persuade clients to give her assets for safekeeping, but then didn’t return the money. The psychic faces 14 counts of theft and two counts of tax evasion.

Marks’ lawyer said the clients used hundreds of hours of services from Marks.

The Daily Camera reports the trial is scheduled to last five days ().
