Good times at play in Monarch. Kid Fest 2012, held annually in Monarch on Jan. 8, will consist of free activities, contests, games and prizes for kids. Face painting, art contests, interactive snow sculptures, helmet decorating, touch-a-snowcat, and a kids terrain park demo and competition in Tilt will be featured. Special appearance from Safety Sam and Smokey Bear.

Celebrate Aspen’s Nordic lifestyle. Wintersköl, Aspen’s annual winter event, held this year Jan. 12-15, dates to January 1951, when Aspenites decided to celebrate Aspen’s unique Nordic lifestyle. The four-day celebration features on-mountain activities, Soupsköl, a canine fashion show, winterfest, fireworks, and much more.

Enjoy Estes Park’s Winter Festival. Explore a CandyLand Ice Castle, demo snowshoes, taste award-winning chili and sip a variety of beers and wines at the 3rd Annual Estes Park Winter Festival, Jan. 13-16. The event begins with an old-fashioned Ceilidh Irish barn dance with live music followed by a weekend schedule that includes a chili cook off and beer/wine tasting, CandyLand ice village and maze, ice skating, pony rides, ice bowling, scavenger hunt, horse and carriage rides and more. Cost is $5 per person.
