A state regulatory board will hold off on suspending the engineering license of former Neenan Co. employee Gary Howell, and Howell will hold off on practicing engineering in Colorado.

The two parties agreed to that arrangement after the state Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors unanimously voted last week to suspend Howell’s license.

“The effect for the public is exactly the same,” said Angie Kinnaird Linn of the state Department of Regulatory Agencies. “He is no longer practicing engineering.”

The board voted to suspend Howell’s license over safety concerns, pointing to an independent review that found serious structural defects on an elementary school in Meeker.
