PARKER — Coloradans know better than to underestimate the influence of the Broncos, particularly during prime Tim Tebow time.

They intricately plan their schedules around events, and Saturday night’s playoff game at New England is no different. In fact, it has reached the high school level: An appealing boys basketball game in the Denver area has changed its start time.

The Class 5A Legend-Chaparral matchup in the powerful Continental League, originally scheduled for 7 p.m., has been switched to a 2:30 p.m. tipoff.

“There you go,” Legend coach Kevin Boley said Monday, acknowledging the impact of the Broncos after their 29-23 overtime playoff victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday.

School officials could have had empty seats Saturday without the time change. Chaparral coach Rob Johnson said the conflict with the Broncos-Patriots game “was part of it, obviously, for our gate. We wanted to make sure everybody’s accommodated.”

Legend, in its first year with seniors, is off to an 8-2 start. Chaparral, ranked No. 4 in The Denver Post’s 5A coaches poll, is 9-2 and fresh from knocking off top-ranked Denver East.

Potential conflict avoided.

“That’s great,” Legend senior wing Steele Krause said. “I’ll be watching.”
